    R.I.P. Minnie Minoso

    Minoso, known as the Cuban Comet and Mr. White Sox, was a seven-time All-Star and three-time Gold Glover whose major league career spanned five decades.

    He played in the majors in five different decades. (The last two were gimmick appearances, of course.) And he played pro ball in seven different decades, appearing in Northern League games in 1993 and 2003. In the latter, he earned a walk. He was 78 at the time.

    He loved the game.

      I might be misremembering, but I believe I heard/read somewhere that Minnie was the inspiration for Garrett Morris's "baseball bin berry berry good to me" character on SNL.

      If not true, maybe it should be.

        I believe it is true, and the line is actually one that Minoso used to say all the time.

        Chico Escuala was the name of the character.
