    Olympic Basketball

    Canadian men's team finalized:

    Nickeil Alexander-Walker Timberwolves
    RJ Barrett Raptors
    Khem Birch Basquet Girona (Spain)
    Dillon Brooks Rockets
    Luguentz Dort Thunder
    Melvin Ejim Unicaja (Spain)
    Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Thunder
    Trey Lyles Kings
    Jamal Murray Nuggets
    Andrew Nembhard Pacers
    Kelly Olynyk Raptors
    Dwight Powell Mavericks

It's unfortunate the Scrubbs won't get a shot at a medal. Their dedication is unmatched. But it is win only philosophy says management. I'll post the women next.

Heard Leo on Overdrive saying he thinks we have a good chance to medal. Even gold, with some luck.

Best back court in the tourney with Shai and Jamal. Big fan of Dillon, Kelly and Khem too.

He talked a lot about how the Olys using FIBA rules can trip up the US squad who don't get out all that much. The rest of the teams are more familiar with them.

Watching the game on SN. Its a US broadcast. I can't stand the commentators. Hope Canada will have their own coverage at the Olympics.

Started too late for me, but appears they played bad. Actually probably a good thing. Play France next week and Chile, which will tell more.
Boxscore shows starters were fine (though bad shooting), the bench not so good. Worried as said about size.

Didn't see the game being in cottage country. The minutes indicated no one was playing heavy minutes by design. Size is an issue. Powell is the third stringer in Dallas.

Canada has Dillon Brooks who will get under the skin of opposing teams and he can score. With SGA and Murray, the offense should be good. But can use more big men.

                BTW, where is Wiggins?

Like Waldo, no one is 100% sure.

According to reports, GS wants to trade him and worried about injury, so forced him out. Wiggins however has been quiet on it. He represented and was great in the 2020 Last chance tournament in Victoria (sure an actual crowd would have been all the difference), so know he wanted to play for Canada.

With Kerr the HC of the US team, seems a little fishy.

He's missed a ton of games the last two seasons. Got a lot of support for being out due to personal reasons. I think this is the club asking for payback. As in we'd appreciate you being healthy in case of a trade or just not risking injury for the season. I can see the first but the second seems lame. GS saying it's mutual. Right.

It’s going to be a tough road. There are too many teams with size, eg. France, USA, Serbia, etc. if Canada cannot play inside the paint, then the perimeter game will lose effectiveness.

Yep. Going to have to shoot the lights out and hope to get fouled when in the paint. But that's a tall order, pardun the pun.

Watching some highlights. These Euros, they are deadly from the 3’s! So if you don’t have a big in the middle, how do you play perimeter D?
