Most definitely paying the posted rate at a public course will be cheaper. The Tour has a large staff that is required to run each tournament....everything from setting up the course to registration, spotters, rules officials , photography etc. They work long days starting at 5 am. Plus all the administrative stuff that is required behind the scenes, meeting with courses in the months before, website, and so on....and of course it is a business so they need to try and turn a profit.

People join the tour to be part of something unique and to play in competitive events on a really good and flawlessly run tour. Also, one gets to play some private courses that they might not have access to. There is also a great sense of comradely out there as you get to know other competitors

I agree with your assessment entirely.

This isn't a dress rehearsal. Enjoy yourself. There's no do-over.

Thanks for your answer! Never played competitive golf so would really like to try next year.
